FIVE WORLD RECORDS IN FIVE MONTHS ON BRP’S SEA-DOO WATERCRAFT

Valcourt, Quebec, Canada  – December 1, 2009 – Eric Lagopoulos set two new world records by riding his Sea-Doo RXT iS 255* watercraft further than anyone before him – 286 miles (460 km) in six hours, 880 miles (1,416 km) in 24 hours – bringing the 2009 total number of world records accomplished on BRP’s Sea-Doo watercraft to five.

Lagopoulos, a professional personal watercraft (PWC) racer from Sarasota, Florida, set the two endurance marks Thursday, November 12, 2009 on Guinness Book of World Records Day joining Mike Pagliccia, Juan Felix Bravo, and Dale Vranckx as riders setting new world records in 2009 on BRP Sea‑Doo watercraft.

Lagopoulos achieved the two world record marks piloting a Sea-Doo RXT iS watercraft around a 20.5 mile (33 km) loop on the C-54 canal south of Palm Bay, FL. The first of the two world records fell early in the morning on November 12th, after overcoming strong winds, dark skies and scattered rain, when he completed 286 miles (460 km) at the six-hour mark with his Sea‑Doo RXT iS watercraft performing flawlessly. A cold front moved through the area that day as Lagopoulos continued to log miles at over 62 mph (100 km/h). Lagopoulos finished his record setting attempt bettering the previous mark by nearly 100 miles (160 km) with 880 miles (1416 km) in 24 hours.

“BRP congratulates these determined Sea-Doo watercraft riders for breaking five world records in five months,” said Bob Lumley, Vice President, North American Sales & Marketing Sea‑Doo/Ski-Doo division. “World Records are difficult to achieve and it takes a special kind of person riding a special kind of watercraft to set these marks. BRP is proud these records were achieved on Sea-Doo watercraft.”

“It was a lot harder than I thought,” said Lagopoulos after his double record setting ride. “But the     Sea-Doo RXT iS was the right watercraft to set these records on. The Intelligent Suspension system (iS) helped minimize fatigue, the Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) helped hold a constant speed, the power of the Rotax engine kept the pace, and I used the Intelligent Brake & Reverse (iBR) every time I came in for fuel stops. It was a remarkable experience.”

Lagopoulos teamed with the legendary Pro Football quarterback Boomer Esiason and the Boomer Esiason Foundation for “Project Dream” to raise money for the research and treatment of children afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis.
